Sinks, Lavatories or Noisy Pipes

denver plumbersThe most common plumbing problems occur near toilets, tubs, and sink fixtures. However, the plumbing pipes are usually the source of the problem. Pipes can leak, and make loud obnoxious noises.

If the pipes are old, you may not be able to remove them that easily, and have to cut them off with a hacksaw. If the valves were welded on, make sure you replace them with the newer threaded valves. You have to leave enough piping to be able to rethread with a rethreading tool. Once it gets this complicated, you may want to call in an experienced and licensed plumber from Applewood.

It is inevitable that older hoses and valves will have a buildup of calcium carbonate. It is a chalky material that you usually see on shower stalls. Applewood can help when this build-up occurs.

Noisy Pipes

Water hammer is the term used to describe the sound of banging pipes. Water hammer is only one of the different sounds that your plumbing pipes can make. If you hear this whenever you turn on the water, it most likely means the pipes are striking against something. Water hammer occurs when you shut the water off, and the rushing water suddenly stops, creating a shock wave and the hammering sound.

Plumbing that is properly installed has air chambers that softens the hit of the rushing water that makes the hammering sound. These chambers sometimes fail because the water overtime absorbs the air in the air chambers. Call Applewood if you experience water hammer or any noisy pipe issues, 303-328-3060. We can help!
