Maximizing your AC Efficiency

Summer is here and with higher temperatures many homeowners are not maximizing their AC efficiency. This oversight can cost hundreds of dollars annually and can easily be avoided. As your home service air conditioning experts, Applewood is here to help.

Raise Your Energy Efficiency Ratio

A couple relaxes beneath their air conditioning vent.

AC efficiency is measured by the energy efficiency ratio (EER), which is calculated at an outdoor temperature of 95 degrees, indoor temperature of 80 degrees and 50% humidity. It is the ratio of the air conditioner’s cooling capacity to the power input. The higher the EER, the more efficient the air conditioning unit is functioning.

Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric recommends you get your home’s air conditioning system serviced at least once a year to ensure it is operating optimally. Other ways to maximize your A/C efficiency include:

  • Clean the area around your outdoor unit
  • Clean and vacuum your vents
  • Cover windows
  • Check to ensure against air leaks
  • Maintain a consistent temperature
  • Invest in a programmable or smart thermostat.
