LISTEN To What Your Home Is Telling You…


Sometimes your home is literally telling you that there is something wrong… all you have to do is listen to it. Here are tips for plumbing leak detection and possible air conditioning, heating, and electrical issues. Call a professional if you hear or see any of the following since larger issues could be lurking.

Plumbing

  • Drains “chug” like the sound of an emptying soda bottle
  • Toilets don’t flush properly
  • Slight, persistent running water sound in toilet
  • Tapping or banging noises from pipes
  • Low water pressure
  • Constant or repeated slow draining
  • Leakage or occasional mild flooding

Heating & Air Conditioning

  • Excessive noise
  • AC or heat pump frequently turns on and off
  • Uneven temperatures from room to room
  • Increased electricity consumption
  • Excessive dust in the home
  • A system that is more than 10 years old

Electrical

  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Switches or outlets that are hot and/or emit a strong, unpleasant odor
  • Fuses and circuit breakers that are blown or trip often
  • Cords, outlets and switch-plates that are discolored
  • Pre-1950′s home construction

Structural

  • Foundation cracks in sheet rock, or exterior brick and mortar
  • Doors that slope and/or don’t open and close correctly
  • Windows become difficult to open
  • Water, mold, rot, water seepage or standing water in basement or crawlspace
  • Musty, moldy odor
  • Wood surfaces that has become discolored and dull
  • Wood grain that has split
  • Paint blisters or peels
  • Excessive condensation on windows
  • Wood decay or damage, or crumbling
